Bipolaris yamadae causes foliage blight of Digitaria insularis in Brazil

During a survey of the mycobiota sourgrass (Digitaria insularis), graminaceous weed from Brazil, severe foliage blight symptoms were observed on plants at different places state Minas Gerais. A fungus identified as Bipolaris yamadae, after polyphasic study, including analysis ITS, GPDH and TEF-1α genes, was isolated diseased tissues. Pathogenicity to confirmed through inoculations healthy plants. This is first report B. yamadae causing D. insularis in Brazil worldwide.
